The South Jersey Resource Conservation and Development Council, Inc. (SJRC&D), located in Columbus, New Jersey; was formed in 1974 to address environmental issues in South Jersey. The Council covers 4,710 sq. miles and includes the eleven southern counties of Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean, and Salem. The Council is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization and is comprised of a County government and a Soil Conservation District representative from each of the eleven counties. The Council bridges the gap between local resource needs and community development providing a unique partnership between county, local and federal partners. TO: Levee owners and government officials concerned with Levees in Gloucester County
WHEN: October 12, 2010 - 10:00 AM WHERE: Gloucester County Planning Office (Directions below) WHY: The Delaware Estuary Levee Organization (DELO) in 2006 identified the need for an inventory to determine the nature and extent of levees in South Jersey. Funding for this Inventory became available from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection in late 2008. The South Jersey Resource Conservation and Development Council invites you to view and discuss the just released "South Jersey Levee Inventory". This meeting will be held at the Gloucester County Planning Office at 10:00 AM on October 12, 2010. This inventory characterizes the conditions of 70 levees located in Gloucester, Salem, Cumberland, and Cape May Counties, which was performed by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service using a DEP grant. This meeting will explore the inventory's methodology, results, the use of LiDAR technologies, and recommendations. Please come prepared to discuss the next steps forward.
