The South Jersey Resource Conservation and Development Council is recruiting dedicated people in this eleven county area to become involved in making the area a better place to live, work, and play. Help us improve South Jersey.

Mission of the Council: "to develop and maintain resource technology information systems and initiate, support and implement conservation projects responsive to the needs of the people in the South Jersey RC&D region enabling them to conserve and manage the ecosystem in which they live."

Goals of the South Jersey RC&D Council

The South Jersey RC&D Council was authorized in 1974, under the authority of the Food and Agriculture Act of 1962 (P.L. 87-703). The Council is organized as a nonprofit corporation under New Jersey State law and under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Operating funds come from dues paid by each sponsoring organizations and grants obtained from state and federal governments, foundations, or private individuals. USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service pays all staff salaries, office expenses, vehicles and the majority of the office equipment.

Members the South Jersey RC&D Council are looking for:

• individuals with an interest in the betterment of the area.
• Individuals interested in taking an active role in identifying problems within the South Jersey RC&D area and assisting in prioritizing the problems as well as solving them.
• Individuals with special skills, such as legal, informational, organizational, fund raising, leadership, artistic, photographic, etc., who can lend their skill to the Council.
• Prospective members need not have any current affiliation with the existing sponsoring organization to serve on any of the Council's committees.

• Attend RC&D committee meetings usually once a month. These will average 2 to 3 hours per month.
• Gather data and present that information to committee members and others in an effort to bring about change in the community.
• Help make decisions that will determine the course of action the committee/Council will pursue.

• You have an opportunity for input on critical issues affecting the residents in your region.
• You become part of an active, respected group working towards needed change.
• You have an opportunity to meet and work with decision-makers from other local, county, and regional organizations.
• You receive a sense of accomplishment through improving your community for others as well as yourself.
