RISE
Resource Information Serving Everyone
Why is it called RISE?

RISE stands for Resource Information Serving Everybody. It was named after the original computer bulletin board system created prior to the internet explosion.

What is RISE?

The Council began collecting local weather data in 1993 from its first station in Bethel Mill Park in Gloucester County. RISE has grown to 20 stations in 10 counties. We started this effort in response to a need for high quality local weather data necessary for irrigation water management practices.

Today, RISE is a system of research grade weather stations located throughout South Jersey. The System records temperature, wind speed and direction, rainfall, relative humidity, and solar radiation. All of this data is needed to accurately determine irrigation requirements.

RISE data is also used for watershed modeling and water quality improvement projects.

What reports are available?

Archived and daily weather information
are available for all reports.
 
Daily Summary provides an hour by hour break down of local weather activity by day.
Six-minute rainfall provides local rainfall rate information for watershed management and emergency management (detecting flash floods).
Evapotranspiration (ET) provides information about water consumption by local plants and crops.  Water consumption can help farmers and growers anticipate when and how much water should be applied to local crops. 
Growing degree day provides local information to farmers and growers regarding integrated pest management issues.  Works with Rutgers TomCast.
Climatic summary provides access to monthly local weather activity by day and compares it to climatic normals.  Helps determine whether local temperatures and precipitation for each selected month and station are above or below normal.
Network summary provides you the ability to take a look at what is happening for one or more stations across the entire network.  Archived hourly information is on-line as far back as 1993!
Enhanced monthly summary allows for a selection of degree day base information for cooling, heating, and growing.  This generates a monthly report used for local growing purposes or energy conservation.
Plus Custom applications are available.
